Teaching from a Hotel in Rügen
I like to holiday on the Island of Rügen which is Germany’s largest island in the Baltic Sea and I always book in at Rügen hotel for the first week and the Baltic Sea Apartments for the second week. Because the Island of Rügen is only a three hour drive from Berlin, it is a very popular holiday destination for German people. There is plenty to see and do for every age group. Rügen is a diverse island of seaside resorts, quiet little fishing villages, 100 year old light houses, beech forests, wild-sea buckthorn hedges on which the amber coloured Sanddom berry grows. Everyone on the island drinks Sanddom juice as it is meant to increase stamina. I usually hire a bike and cycle along the paths to the flint fields near Mukran or jump aboard the Racing Roland steam train which is a quicker way to see Rügen’s main sights and seaside resorts.
I have met some very interesting people while holidaying on the island and very often see the same people returning to the Rügen Hotel year after year, just like myself. This time though things were a little different when I arrived. Instead of families and couples checking in, the Reception area was very busy dealing with queries regarding teaching opportunities. A small group of English teachers had booked in at the Rügen Hotel for a few weeks to give German people lessons in English. Apparently, so many people are using computers nowadays there is a very big interest to learn English. The Rügen Hotel had arranged for a series of English lessons to be taught to anyone who might be interested. As the majority of people who holiday on the island are German these English classes were proving to be very popular. The classes were getting booked up very quickly and whole families were coming to the Rügen Hotel for the afternoon lessons. I thought this was a strange thing to want to do while on holiday. I certainly wouldn’t want to spend my summer holiday sitting inside a hotel when I could be outside on the beach or swimming in the sea.
